This egg-shaped painting depicts the balance of power as a map of the armed regiments in the Battle of Waterloo, the final battle that marked the end of the Napoleonic Wars, one of the most consequential expansionist wars in human history. The colors here are pinkish light gray, dark gray, and orange. Historical paintings are relatively rare for Nicholaas Chiao, who is better known for his portraits and interior scenes.
