The Four Years is an artist-made calendar, which took Nicholaas Chiao four years to create. He made different marks on it each day, every day for about 4 years, to create the final look of this composition. The prevailing color here is white - a color of paper complemented by black and multicolored marks made by the artist. Each day's marks symbolized events and happenings of the day, including personal, environmental, and political events.
