Artwork Description:
In this composition, a whitened yellow background is complemented by a black contour of the colorful Soviet Union satellite Sputnik-1, a large black eye, and colorful Suns or flowers. This abstract composition takes a minimalist approach to details.

Fortunately or unfortunately, the scientific leadership and success of Sputnik 1 were not supported by the numerous achievements of the Soviet System; the Soviet leadership was supposed to introduce reforms to the communist system, such as democratisation and strong economic stimulus, to guide well-performing scientists, economists, artists, teachers, etc. The Soviet Union was supposed to rely on endless industrialisation to compete with the Western World.

The absence of effective reforms and continued adherence to a narrow Leninist ideology led to economic stagnation. This stagnation, together with persistent political tensions and unresolved historical grievances, created a constellation of factors that ultimately contributed to the outbreak of the wars between Russia and Ukraine in 2014 and 2022. Within this context, the artist emphasizes that the Russian and Ukrainian nations—like all other nations—share such deep connections that armed conflict seems unjustifiable, even when arguments are made in favor of military solutions to the dispute.
