In the abstract series Empire of the Sun, Nicholaas Chiao envisions an idyllic urban settlement inhabited by immortal beings. Chiao asserts that the path of human civilization is fundamentally one of scientific and educational advancement. He proposes that ethical development and the pursuit of immortality are imminent necessities. This envisioned life is characterized as a celebration of existence, encompassing physical and chemical experiences, in which individuals may live or simulate multiple lives.
Empire of the Sun is a series of abstract paintings in which chaotic backgrounds are combined with suprematist rhythms of architectural and biomorphic kinds. Colors are pure and beautiful, colliding in complementary and neighboring harmonies.
