Artwork Description:
Empire of the Sun presents a radiant urban utopia, a realm of immortal presences situated between science and myth. According to Chiao, the trajectory of civilization is closely linked to the pursuit of knowledge, a progressive ascent toward ethical transformation, and the aspiration for engineered immortality. In this vision, existence is conceived as a festival of sensation, an ongoing choreography of chemical and physical experiences, where the distinction between living and simulating becomes indistinct, and the self is replicated across countless possible lives.
Within this series, Chiao juxtaposes chaos and order as turbulent backgrounds give way to the structured geometries of suprematist architecture and the fluid contours of biomorphic forms. Chromatic purity dominates, with luminous and dynamic colors interlocking in complementary and adjacent harmonies, creating a visual environment where structure and spontaneity coexist.
